Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit organisation, on Friday kick-started a two-day all expenses paid residential training programme in Bauchi State, where over 150 youths selected from the Northern States of Nigeria are being trained on leadership, good governance, strategic communication skills and civic engagement.
The training tagged: Get Involved Leadership Training (third and fourth editions), being held at Double 4 International Conference Centre, Bauchi, is one of the numerous laudable programmes of the LGI targeted at creating opportunities for young people to channel their creativity, energy and aspirations to adding value to their immediate communities.
The third and fourth editions of the Get Involved Leadership Training (GILT) had two youths drawn from each local government area of Bauchi and Gombe States as well as representatives from each of the 19 northern states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Whilst delivering his keynote address at the event, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the LGI, Hon. Shina Peller, noted that GILT is meant to galvanize, train, support and raise the voices and stake of the Nigerian youth as well as to aid youth participation in leadership, governance and nation building right from their various immediate localities.
Hon. Peller said, the Get Involved Leadership Training is a train-the-trainer leadership workshop where participants are adequately trained on effective leadership skills, strategic communication, active citizenship and nation building; the trainees will thereafter return to their various local governments to replicate the training for the larger participants at the local government and ward level.
“We are aware that the voice of every young Nigerian needs to be heard. We want to galvanize, train, support and raise the voices and stake of the Nigerian youth.
“We are building a new generation of young people that take responsibility for fixing their communities and country through active participation in the socio-political process.”
It would be recalled that the first and second editions of the Get Involved Leadership Training of the LGI had previously been held in Ibadan, Oyo State and Osogbo, Osun State respectively. The Bauchi and Gombe editions of GILT continue today.
