All is set for the commissioning of newly established Technical University- Tech-U, Ibadan, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
The governing board of the institution, which is headed by the former Vice chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, will also be inaugurated alongside
Expected at the permanent site, located at kilometre15 of the Ibadan/Lagos expressway are Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Professors Ibidapo-Obe, Oladapo Afolabi and others.
According to the state’s commissioner for information, culture and tourism, the projects which include a central e-library space for 500 students 10 offices, 12 units of toilet facilities as well as a block of 24 lecture rooms which has 11 administrative offices, furniture, borehole, a 500KVA generating set, street lights, CCTV cameras, air conditioners and additional toilets facilities for male and female students are initiated by CBN through its intervention project.
Only few weeks ago, the government showed its readiness to commence full academic exercise when it announced Professor Ayobami Salami as the institution’s vice-chancellor.
The CBN buildings, Arulogun explained, were constructed on about 1.455 hectares of land. He noted that the state will embark on additional development on the 200 hectare university to actualize the vision behind the establishment of the TechU
The university, which is expected to provide technical knowledge and support base for the industrial revolution of the state and Nigeria as a whole, will begin academic exercise in October 2017.
The state government would only provide seed money for the take – off of the university and there won’t be any form of subvention after then as it would operate on a pubic – private – partnership platform, Arulogun said, adding that the vision behind the institution is to be a self-financing one as the government will ultimately detach itself after midwifing it.
