A civil rights group, Veteran Organization for Human Rights (VOHRI), has tasked Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and the state commissioner for Police, Mr. Shina Olukolu to intervene in the threat to life of one Mrs. Sekinah Olohunosebi by the trio of Sesan Olootu, Kehinde Apanpa and Falilatu Opadijo.

The group in a statement signed by the duo of Comrades Abayomi Sakirullahi, Lead Activist and Abimbola Adekunle, General Secretary, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan, the state capital also urged the Director of State Security Service and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly to intervene in the alleged land grabbing of a parcel of land belonging to Olohunosebi by the trio.

The group maintained that Olohunosebi bought eight acres of land (‘A’) on 21st October, 2006 on behalf of her two brothers Messrs AbduRasid Olohunosebi and Nafiu Imran at Igbara Village, Elebu area, Ibadan from Chief Late Busari Ogunkeye of S6/140 Alagbada, Ogunkeye Compound, Kudeti Area, Ibadan, but a group of land grabbers led by Sesan Olooto and Kehinde Apanpa since 2017, have been bragging and boasting around that anyone they see on the land would be killed and nothing would come out of it.

VOHRI however said it is disheartening that up till now, the land grabbers have been terrorizing the owner of the land.

The group then passionately call on Makinde, Olukolu, Ogundoyin and other stakeholders to use their good offices to order key through investigation into this case before Sesan Olooto and his cohorts rain terror and kill innocent people on a landed property which does not belong to them.

VOHRI said, “Eleha Olohunosebi Sekinah bought eight acres of land for her two brothers with full documentations on 21st October, 2006 on behalf of her two brothers Messrs AbduRasid Olohunosebi and Nafiu Imran at Igbara Village, Elebu area, Ibadan from Chief Late Busari Ogunkeye of S6/140 Alagbada, Ogunkeye Compound, Kudeti Area, Ibadan. The vendor of the land late Chief Busari Ogunkeye left his son Mr. Sikiru Ogunkeye as a living witness. In 2006 when the land was bought, land properties were not lucrative then and so it did not attract grabbers. In 2016, when the land was bulldozed and cleared, no one challenged the purchaser then.

“However, in early 2017, when Sesan Olooto, and his men invaded the land, they did not show any valid documents to show that they were the owners of the land. Non-the-less, the police did not act well to fish-out the chaffs out of the grains. Again, on the 22nd July, 2019 when Eleha Sekinah reported the case of another invasion and serious threat to her life to the police at Elebu Oke-Alaro Police Station only a lip service was paid on the issue.

“A group of land grabbers invaded the land, removed the corner-pieces and sign-posts. The group led by one Sesan Olooto (a notorious grabber) parading unsmiling and stern-looking hoodlums which included Kehinde Apanpa and others who brandished AK47 rifles at will claiming that the land belonged to Falilatu Opadijo.

“Consequent upon harassment, serious threat to life, intimidation, conspiracy and oppression meted and still meting on Sekinah Olohunosebi by land grabbers in persons of Sesan Olooto and Kehinde Apanpa and others, we passionately call on you sir to use your good offices to order through investigation into this case before Sesan Olooto and his cohorts rain terror and kill innocent people on a landed property which does not belong to them.

“These land grabbers beat up Mr. Fasola assigned to oversee the land. The case was reported to the State CID through a petition written by Barr. B.K. Salami the then DCP Bature assigned the case to Superintendent Badiru and one officer named Valentine. Sesan Olooto and Kehinde Apanpa were invited by the police and only Kehinde Apanpa showed up. Sesan Olooto and Kehinde Apanpa were invited by the police and only Kehinde Apanpa showed up. Sesan Olooto refused to appear at the police station. Only God knew what happened thereafter, the only thing the police did was to tell the two parties involved to solve the case amicably between themselves. Thereafter the damaged corner-pieces and sign posts were fixed back into their places.

“On the 22nd July, 2019 Sekinah Olohunosbi went for an on-the-spot assessment of the land, she met Kehinde Apanpa and others heavily armed with guns and matchets claiming they had been sent by their master, Sesan Olooto. Kehinde Apanpa and his colleagues had already removed the corner-pieces and the sign posts when Eleha got to the land. Kehinde Apanpa and his men shot into the air sporadically and threatened to kill Eleha if she ever dared to come back to the land.

“The case was immediately reported to Oke-Alaro, Elebu Police Station. The DPO sent two policemen for an on-the-spot assessment of the land. On getting there, the grabbers had fled. The policemen took some photographs of the damaged corner-pieces and the removed sign-posts.

“It is however disheartening that up till now, nothing concrete has been done by the police. Since then Sesan Olooto and Kehinde Apanpa have been bragging and boasting around that anyone they see on the land would be killed and nothing would come out of it. They claimed that they have gotten the licence to kill at will and no law enforcement agent can arrest them since they had done many heinous acts in the past successfully without any repercussions.

“Sesan Olooto and his cohorts had since constituted themselves as bandits parading the land and shooting sporadically into the air to disperse people.

“The Veteran Organization for Human Rights (VOHRI) is a civil rights group that is unequivocally committed to defending the rights of the people especially the downtrodden. VOHRI is the voice for the voiceless and the defender for the defenseless. As a civil rights group, we have for many a year worked and cooperated with the Security agents in Nigeria and in the Diasporas to stem down the spate of crime and criminality.

“The invasion and attempted grabbing of Eleha Olohunosebi Sekinah landed property by Sesan Olooto, Kehinde Apanpa and others and serious terror being unleashed on the neighbours and innocent people is a violation of the fundamental human rights of Eleha Sekinah as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria sections 33, 34, 35, 36, 43 & 44, 2010 as amended. We therefore, call on you Sir, to earnestly intervene before things go out of hands VOHRI as a human rights organization demands nothing but justice. An axiom states that justice delayed is justice denied”.
