On November 19, 2024, the Karim Adeyemi Foundation commemorated World Toilet Day with impactful activities to advance Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) goals.
With the theme “A Place for Peace,” the foundation collaborated with Ibadan North Local Government, Ibadan North East Local Government, Ibadan Red Cross, Ibadan North NYSC SDG Corp members, and Oje Market Leaders to hold a sensitisation walk to raise awareness on the importance of clean toilets and the dangers of open defecation.
These efforts align with the Oyo State Government’s commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
As part of its contributions to WASH initiatives, the foundation, established by Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, will commission four WASH projects across Ibadan.
The latest is the first public bio-mass toilet and bathroom facility for the Oje market and Temidire community aimed at serving thousands of community members.
During the walk, Hon. Igbalajobi, House Leader of Ibadan North East Local Government, expressed gratitude to the foundation for addressing the pressing need for toilet facilities in the area. He also urged community members to avoid dumping waste and faeces into Oje River to sustain the foundation’s efforts. Key community stakeholders, including Alhaji Ahmed Kamorudeen, Babaloja Eleso of Oje Market, and Mogaji Ajobo of Temidire, actively participated in the sensitization walk and symbolic tree planting.
Speaking on behalf of the foundation, President Abiodun Adeyemi reiterated its commitment to empowering vulnerable communities.
While inspecting the projects he emphasized the importance of building resilient grassroots communities as a cornerstone for national transformation, stating that “strong communities can bridge societal gaps and foster lasting development.”
