Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Saturday, commissioned a road named after him at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, the state capital.
InsideOyo.com gathered that the road was named Senator Abiola Ajimobi Ring Road, IITA Ibadan.
The 10.5Km road on the other hand covers part of the perimeter fence of the 1000-hectare campus of IITA.
While speaking, Senator Ajimobi said the support given to IITA was in realization of the importance of agriculture to Oyo State, and the contribution of IITA to agricultural development in the state.
Also, the Director General of IITA Sanginga Nteranya said “The new road will protect IITA from damage caused by flood as it happened between 2014 and 2015. It’s a legacy of the outgoing administration”
Ajimobi also commissioned Agricultural Transformation Building commissioned. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and others were at the events.
The event also witnessed the presentation of the Oyo State Agricultural Transformation Policy Framework.
Concerned by the poor performance of agriculture, Governor Ajimobi last year requested IITA to produce a policy document that would provide direction to the transformation of agriculture in the state in the next 25 years. Based on this request, IITA worked with the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), the state ministry of agriculture, and Oyo State Agricultural Development Program to produce the framework.
