Jokodolu Babes FC lost 2-0 yesterday at the Umuahia Township Stadium in the week 4 encounter of the Nigeria Women Premier League.
Chiaka Ugorji opened the goal in the 55 seconds after Jokodolu Babes Defenders felt Chiaka in off side position but the Assistant Referee flag was down which give Ugorji chance to slot in from close range to give the Abia girls the crucial lead.
Abia Angels goalkeeper Elizabeth Nwachukwu was the busiest of the first half, as the visitor search for an equalizer, Gazali Temitope, Olapade Zainab both gave Elizabeth a run for her money but she stood firm in goal.
In the second half, Jokodolu Babes came out smoking but the defence of Abia Angels were well composed to denial Suliyat Abidemi, and effort from Olapade Zainab.
Jokodolu Babes pressurize the Umuahia girls the more, but was punish again by Sunday Abigail who tapped in from close range to beat injured Agatha Thompson and send the game to 2-0 to the amusement of the home fans
Captain Ojiugo Godson tried a shot outside the 18 yards box but Jokodolu Babes Goalkeeper Agatha Thompson was well position in goal.
Towards the end of the game, the visitors fought hard to reduce the deficit but Elizabeth was fine in goal as the game ended 2-0 in favour of the Home team.
Assistant Coach of Abia Angels, Chukwu Igwe during the post match interview was delighted with the win but not happy with the performance of the team. ” We played poorly today, this wasn’t the display I expected, we will make the necessary changes before our next game against Pelican Stars in Calabar.’
For the Head Coach of Jokodolu Babes Ahmed Muhammed said he was contented with the way his girls played “unfortunately we lost the game and that is football for you, although I am not happy with the officiating but I will correct some of the mistakes in our next game”
Up next for Jokodolu is a home game against Leader and champion Nasarrawa Amazons Wednesday May 9th 2018 while Abia Angels traveled to Calabar to take on pelican stars.
