The immediate past retired Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Lands and Housing, ESV. Tayo Hassan on Saturday celebrated his retirement from Public Service and marked his 60th birthday.
The double ceremony which hosted the attendance of many government functionaries, professional colleagues and other high profile dignitaries was held at Owu Crown Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo state Capital.
During the retirement colloquium section, Veteran Journalist and prolific Writer, Dr. Festus Adedayo in his keynote address described the public service as a realm where government benefits and give back to the society.
He added that a public servant is someone who has dedicated his/her life for service of mankind, deployed as expertise for the development of the society.
Adedayo further maintained that a Public servant is someone with patriotism, selflessness, and “a properly cultivated and garnished mind” saddled with the responsibility of the messiah in providing soccur for the people.”
While speaking, the first discussant and former Head of Service in Oyo state, Mr. Soji Eniade spoke on the theme “Life in and After Public Service in Nigeria” described a public servant as someone in a career position for a government department or agency, built around competencies and professionalism.
He lamented the fact that a lot of opportunities and incentives were given to the public service in the past adding that such opportunities, trainings and resources are no longer available.
Eniade added that the journey into retirement starts from the first day of appointment adding that a civil servant must have role models and mentors who they will always look up to, so as to have a successful ending.
Speaking about the life after service, he admonished public retirees to focus on family, friends, finance and take good cognizance of their healths by consulting the service of a medical doctor from time to time.
The Second discussant, Mr Ayodeji Karim while discussing on the theme “Land Matters and affordable housiyng in Nigeria” urged related government agencies to look into modalities which can help people get affordable housing in the country.
He further called on lands and house owners to patronize Qualityt workmanship, and Standard Organization of Nigeria (Son) level of quality of building materials in their construction projects.
The Oluwo of Iwo Land, His Imperial Majesty, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi in his royal address congratulated ESV. Tayo Hassan on his retirement describing him as a man who has selflessness as one of his qualities.
Dignitaries present at the retirement ceremony were the Oluwo of Iwo Land, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi (Telu 1), former Secretary to the Osun state government, Alh. Fatai Akinbade, Alh. Moshood Adeoti, Senator representing Osun West, Sen. Adelere Oriolowo, Commissioner for Lands and Housing in Osun State, Barr. Nathaniel Agunbiade.
Also present at the event were the Former cyommissioner for Lands and Housing in Oyo state, Mr. Isaac Omodewu, Former Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bimbo Adekanbi, Former Head of Service in Oyo State, Mr. Adesoji Eniade, Prof. Lai Dawood Olurode of University of Lagos and many others.
