The Oyo State Government has reassured structure owners and crop farmers about the proposed construction of the Ilu-Tuntun Business District, ensuring due process and resettlement as enumeration of affected buildings begins next Monday.
At a town hall meeting held at Akinyele Local Government Hall, Moniya, Ibadan, Commissioner for Housing, Lands, and Urban Development, Mr. Akinfunmilayo Williams, stated that 7,872 hectares would be acquired for CBD projects. The meeting aimed to engage stakeholders from affected communities, exploring the project’s potential to provide expanded opportunities for the state and Akinyele.
Mr. Williams emphasized that ancient towns and cultural traits, including Olorisa-Oko, Akuro Abeowu, Ajibade, Oloje, Alabata, and Deyidu, would be reintegrated with government facilities. Enumeration of affected villages will commence on Monday, with the government considering resettlement and compensation. His door remains open for review after enumeration.
Alakinyele of Akinyele, Oba Adeniran James, expressed concerns that the government has not fulfilled its promise to compensate 210 hectares of land, with only 90 hectares compensated so far. He assured the Oyo State Government of the community’s support for development and urged affected communities to remain calm until after enumeration.
Present at the meeting were government representatives, led by the commissioner, permanent SEC, Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Onijaye of Ijaye, Baale Oluyemisi of Olorisa-Oko, Alakuro of Akuro, and other traditional rulers, community leaders, and affected landowners.
