Oyo state Government has assured residents of Ido Local government Area that it would put all measures in place to safeguard the lives of voters as they head to the polls for the rearranged Council election scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 26th May, 2021.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Hon. Tallest Innocent.
The statement reads in part: “As Residents of Ido Local Government head to the polls to put the icing on the cake on Wednesday, 26th May, Our resolve to guarantee a free, fair and credible election is uncompromising. The government will take all necessary measures to safeguard the life of every resident heading to the polls to exercise their franchise. Security of lives and properties of the people of Oyo state remains a paramount interest of the government and all necessary measures will be put in place to ensure that no life is lost during the process. The election has so far been peaceful, save infractions in some places which were immediately addressed by the appropriate authorities.”
“This is to reassure all residents of Ido Local Government Area, that OYSIEC is fully capable of completing the process it has started, and would perform creditably well come Wednesday, 26th May, 2021. The disposition of OYSIEC in this election is highly commendable. They have contributed their part in entrenching democracy at the grassroots by conducting an election reflecting the opinion of the electorates.”
“Voters from Ido local government are urged to conduct themselves in orderly manner with strict observance of COVID-19 guidelines while heading to the polls to elect chairman and ward councilors in the state. “
The government applauded the security agencies for performing creditably on the elections conducted so far into 32 local governments in the state, urging them not to relent in their efforts.
“Let me frankly appreciate the sterling efforts of all the security agencies in the state, your diligence in discharging your professional duties has afforded electoral umpires, candidates and electorates, the enabling environment for a smooth exercise.”
You would recall that OYSIEC had rescheduled the elections for Ido Local Government Area as a result of the omission of the logo of the Zenith Labour Party from the ballot paper .
