The Igala and Igede communities in Oyo state have expressed their support for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ibadan Southwest/Northwest federal constituency seat in the coming election, Adedeji Olajide.
The communities, particularly those in Ibadan south-west and Ibadan northwest local government areas promised to mobilise their members for the actualisation of Olajide’s ambition.
The Onu Igala kingdom of Oyo state, High Chief Friday Okoliko and the general secretary of the Omi nyi Igede, Mr Agi Elias, gave the assurance at a meeting of the leadership of the communities with the PDP candidate.
The Onu Igala said the people had been impressed with the reports and comments of people about Olajide, saying their support was to further encourage him.
According to him, the people had investigated the PDP candidate and had found out that he had been impacting the lives of people positively before aspiring for political office.
He said he was confident that Olajide would replicate what he had been doing before getting to political office when he is eventually elected to represent the people of his constituency.
Okoliko said: “We will work for you and give you our total support, we have looked at the impact you can makeand we believe that people like you can make a serious impact.”
Elias in his contributions said the Igede people living in the area were ready to support and mobilise themselves for Olajide, pleading that non-indigenes in the state should, however, be considered for patronage and appointments.
Olajide, however, lauded the stance of the Igala and Igede, promising that he would not deceive people because of a political post.
He said he had shown enough goodwill to the people more than his opponents as he was determined to ensure the development of his constituency.
He said: “Before I even thought of seeking political office I have been empowering our youths, I have been sinking boreholes in communities, we have embarked on other community development projects and I didn’t wait till am contesting the election.
