Traditional rulers, family heads (Mogajis), Baales and Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) have resolved to curb the menace of issuance of Local Government Identification Certificate to non-indigenes of Ibadan land.
The resolution was reached during a meeting held at Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, on Thursday,
A statement jointly signed after the meeting by the President, Ibadan Mogajis Association, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, said, henceforth, the process of issuing Local Government Identification Certificate in all the 11 local governments across Ibadan land must include a signature of either a Mogaji, Baale, Traditional Ruler, and approval of the Olubadan before such certificate can be issued by any local government officials.
They noted that this will prevent non-indigenes from collecting Local Government Identification Certificate at the expense of original Ibadan sons and daughters.
The statement alleged that some local government officials in Ibadan land have turned Local Government Identification Certificate issuance to money making venture by issuing it to non-Indigenes.
“They issue it once money exchanged hands, and this is disenfranchising millions of original Ibadan indigenes.
“Local Government Identification Certificate has become pure water in all the eleven local governments across Ibadan land. Local Government officials do not usually confirm indigeneship of those seeking certificate before issuing it to them.
“We want to stop some unscrupulous people at the local governments perpetrating this evil,” the statement said.
At the meeting were representatives of family heads (Mogajis) in Ibadan land; Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori; President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Niyi Ajewole; representive of Ibadan Baales, Baale F.B Ige; representatives of monarchs and traditional rulers and Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade among others.
