Chief Niyi Akintola, a gubernatorial aspirant under the platforms of the All Progressives Congress, APC has said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has the constitutional right to declare.
Akintola said this, on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The legal luminary also dispelled the rumour that he has joined the Senator Teslim Folarin faction of the All Progressives Congress.
He said he has been a member of the progressives’ family since the days of Alliance for Democracy.
His words “I have never left the party since this democratic experience was put in place. I moved with the tide from AD to Action Congress Of Nigeria and to the All Progressives Congress. If our leaders think there is any other person that is loyal to the progressives’ ideals among those of us aspiring to get the ticket of the party, they should say it out.
“You see, I am always proud to say it that I am a Bola Ige boy! Some of us still hold on to the principles he handed over to us. However, he told us that there are certain levels we should not go below.
“There are some people in the APC today that we progressives should really not mix with. I appreciate the fact that we need others but this should be based on principles. That was why our leaders took us away from PDP when it was being formed and AD was formed.
“I am bold to say that Senator Teslim Folarin and Isaac Omodewu put together met me in our party. I do not belong to the Tessy tendency of our party.”
Akintola, however, insisted that his gubernatorial ambition is not a matter of ‘life and death’ to him adding that he has a second and third addresses.
When talking about what happened to him in 2018, he revealed that he was offered a senatorial ticket by Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, Engineer Seyi Makinde and others but he refused to play along.
“I did not accept because I have conscience. What will I tell our leader, Chief Bola Ige if I meet him in heaven later? I am a progressive to the core of my soul. I cannot do what I will not be able to defend later.”
