The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has called youths in the state to re-strategise so as to be able to attain positions of authority.
Hon. Ogundoyin gave the advice while delivering the keynote address at the 2nd Oyo State Youth Summit organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo State chapter held on Wednesday at Mauve 21 Event Centre, Ring Road, Ibadan.
According to PM Parrot, the Speaker, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Hon. Muhammed Abiodun Fadeyi, pointed out that contrary to the notion by older people in Nigeria that ‘youths of today are the leaders of tomorrow’, he submitted that the supposed youth were kept at the bay while the older politicians kept recycling themselves in country’s key political arena.
Hon. Ogundoyin, while describing politics as a vehicle to attain political power, challenged youths to wake up from their slumber and get involved actively in the political activities of the country. He implored them to partake more in issues of national discourse, rather than in the act of thuggery and hooliganism.
The Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bar. Mutiu Agboke in his goodwill message, reiterated that youths in the country need to demonstrate readiness and genuine commitment to lead by discovering their true personality, participation in the issue of national discourse and registering their voice in the electioneering processes.
He charged them to take responsibility of liberating the country from the shackle of bad governance and answer in one voice to the yearning of the populace.
