Taiwo Adisa, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, has explained that his principal contracted coronavirus with known people in Abuja.
While speaking on Silverbird Television (STV) on Tuesday morning monitored by InsideOyo.com, Adisa said there is no need to politicise the issue of COVID-19 pandemic.
He explained that the issue of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally on March 18th, 2020 doesn’t come to play because there was no known incident of the virus in Oyo state as at then. Dismissing insinuations, he said the governor did not also have any symptom (s) at that time.
On the rally, before the COVID-19 index case was noticed, the governor made it a point of duty that sanitizers were distributed to people at the rally, If you noticed a clip from the rally, the governor said in Yoruba: "Have you used the sanitizers that you were given" pic.twitter.com/MymZMh2nXy

“The issue of the March 18 PDP southwest Zonal Unification Rally doesn’t come to play because there was no known incident of the virus in Oyo state and the governor didn’t also have any symptom(s) as at that time.”
“The governors went to Abuja the following day, they held meetings. The governor had contacts with people that are known. We don’t have to politicize such an issue.”
He said the governor tested positive almost the same time that the index case was being discharged.
“It was meant to be good news from the state that it had successfully treated and discharged the index case in the state, but then it came out that the governor tested positive.
“Yes, it may be shocking as an individual, but the governor is of a good spirit. He is not feeling any symptoms. He said that himself, I have seen him as well as other medical experts. That does not mean that he wouldn’t self-isolate, he is self-isolating.
“It is also a good campaign to us. This is because there are some of the populace who think that this pandemic is not real, maybe God wanted to use him as a campaign for us to prove that the pandemic is real and among us.
“Earlier before now, it was difficult to convince them that this virus is real. Some were even asking that what we brought for them, we had to tell them that it is not a matter of bringing something, yes we brought hand sanitizer, handwash and so on.
“We had to enlighten them that it is the person that is alive that will be able to earn income the next month.”
