As Nigeria is tagged poverty capital in the world, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Barrister Mutalib Adebayo Ojo, has urged youths and parents to make education a priority as it is the only tool that can secure their future and take them out of poverty.
Ojo, stated this on Sunday at the Ita Ege- Idi Aro- Onala 2019 day celebration.
According to Newspeakonline, the former commissioner said education brought him and others to the level they attained today, adding that education is an important tool to succeed in life.
“Education is an important tool to succeed in life; Education brought us here today, “ he said.
He decried the attitude of the youths and parents in the community to education, saying they no longer take education serious.
According to him, “You don’t go to school again and I am not happy.
“In 2013, when I came here, I told you that anybody that want to go to school should come and meet us.
“Myself and Hamzat Lekan-Salami donated N5million towards an education trust fund project. We saw only one person; a lady that has graduated and finished her youth service,” Ojo stated.
He enjoined the youths and parents to take advantage of the available opportunity to get education.
He disclosed that the trust fund will cater for the education of whoever is interested from primary school to tertiary level.
“Bring your children, I am pleading with you. Anybody that want to send his or her children to school should come and meet us even if you have money to send them to school.
“People of Eleta, Kudeti, Ashanke, Labo, Idi Aro, Ariori, Ita Olukoyi, I am pleading with you all, “ he said.
Ojo stated that he will do a programme that the traders and artisans in the community will benefit from, adding that nobody would be left out.
He further stated that he will sink three boreholes in the community and also build a clinic that would be commissioned in December by the outgoing governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi.
He stated that he is not doing these projects because of politics, saying “ I am not interested in any position.”
“It is just a way of giving back to the society,” he added
