Following the ban on the usage of ‘hotplates’ on campus by the management of the University of Ibadan, the students have threatened too resist such ‘policy’.
Before it was totally banned, only male students were allowed to use ‘hotplates’ in the hostel. Cooking with ‘hotplates’ in female hostels was outlawed by the administration of Professor Isaac Adewole, who is now Nigeria’s health minister.
It was gathered that trouble started during the handing-over event of the newly elected executives of the Student Union. In the presence of the vice-chancellor and offer top officials of the university, Ojo Aderemi, who is the new president of the union, was said to have allegedly stated that all females should start using ‘hotplates’ in the kitchenettes and if any body should harass them, they should report to the union.
Infuriated by the action, the management on May 12th, 2017, banned the use of ‘hotplates’ in every hostel
A statement by the management threatened that any student caught using it would have to face the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
Inside Oyo, however, learnt that the students may have concluded plan to stage ‘a mother of all protest’ to vent their anger.
