A man, Malik Aderogba, was brutally attacked by hoodlums in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on October 24.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred between the Customs office and the Federal secretariat, around 6:00 pm.
The hoodlums, who seemed to have lain in wait for their victim, pounced on Aderogba, beating him mercilessly before making away with his Samsung Fold 4 phone.
“I was walking along the road when I saw some boys attacking a man.
“They were punching and kicking him. I was too scared to intervene, but I watched as they took his phone and ran away.”said an eyewitness who preferred anonymity.
The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but it is believed to be more than mere robbery.
The incident has raised concerns about the growing spate of violent crimes in Ibadan and the need for increased security measures in the city.
As at the time of filing this report, the police were yet to comment on the incident. It is unclear if any arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
The victim, Malik Aderogba, is currently receiving treatment for his injuries at an undisclosed hospital.
The incident has left many residents of Ibadan in shock and has raised fears about the safety of the city.
