The donor of Hassan Olawale Giwa (HOG) Football Competition, Arc. Hassan Giwa has charged the players and coaches to display maturity and discipline throughout the competition to ensure hitch-free tournament.
He also appealed to all the match officials to maintain fairness and balance officiating as demonstrated in the opening match.
Giwa, in his remarks at the kick-off of the first edition of HOG Football Competition held at Community Grammar School, Lalupon on Friday.
According to the APC chieftain, he commended the players, coaches and the match officials for the demonstration of good sportsmanship throughout the opening match.
He charged to continue in that manner to encourage more people who wish to support the development of grassroots football.
His words, “from this opening match between Monaco FC and Adecorum FC, though it ended goalless draw, however, I saw many young promising talents and I believe that many will still discover in the subsequent matches.
“I want to encourage you to put in more effort, to show dedication and commitment to what you can do best. I also want you to be humble and be disciplined and most importantly to demonstrate good attitude because that is the only key to success in life.
“I salute the coaches of the two teams for what they have impacted into their players. I want to encourage you to join hands with me to lift the face of grassroots football in our immediate community.
“And to our match officials, I appreciate your effort as well, because you made the match worthy to watch. You demonstrated high level of professionalism and technical abilities required of a good official.
“In all, I want all of you, the players, coaches and officials to continue in this manner in order to encourage other football promoters support the development of grassroots football,” Giwa said.
