A Group within the Oyo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), the Democratic Youth Alliance, (DYA) has lamented the current state of the party following resignation of prominent members and leaders.
The Group in a release issued on Thursday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Akinola Adisa said the spate of resignations from the PDP in Oyo state is giving it the fear that the ruling party in the the state is not in a stable condition.
It said in recent weeks the party has witnessed several high-profile resignations from the PDP members in Oyo federal constituency with members citing internal conflicts, imposition, disregard for democratic principles, marginalization, and several others
DYA also said in the couple of days two prominent members of the party, Hon. Adelakun Fatai from Ido Local Government and the PDP Secretary in Oyo West Local Government, Comrade Olayiwola Jelili have resigned from the party.
The group further cited the resignation of the Ibadan North Chairman of the party, Seun Adelore shortly before the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election.
It also.stated that a prominent leader of the party in the South East, Pa Tiamiyu Abidikugu also resigned from the party few weeks ago and joined the African Democratic Congress, (ADC).
DYA said this continue decimation of party members and leaders is a bad sign that the party is heading for trouble in 2027.
DYA said in the statement: “Barely 24 hours after Hon. Adelakun Fatai resigned his PDP membership from Ido LGA for what he described.as an alleged betrayal of trust by Governor Seyi Makinde, another member of the party,, Comrade Olayiwola Jelili has resigned from the party.
“Comrade Olayiwola Jelili, PDP secretary in Oyo West Local Government Area has resigned formally from the party and ceased to be secretary of the party.
“It was gathered that internal conflicts, disregard for democratic principles were among factors cited by previous defectors from the Oyo West Local Government Area
“This development underscores the need for the party to address its internal issues and strengthen its structures to regain the trust of its members and the electorate before the 2027 general elections.
“It could also be recalled that while resigning his membership of the PDP, the Chairman of the PDP in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Seun Adelore, cited what he described as “deep-seated injustice within the party, lack of reward for loyalty, and a growing departure from democratic principles.
“He alleged that the PDP in Oyo State is increasingly being run like a private business by select factions, sidelining genuine party members and their interests.
“With this current situation in our party, we feel we are not in good shape and if nothing is not done on time, we may be heading to a defeat in 2027”.
