The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State said the pact between former Gov. Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Michael Koleoso to lead the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state is “ an unholy alliance of strange bedfellows.’’
APC’s Publicity Secretary, Dr Azeez Olatunde, said this in a statement in Ibadan on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Koleoso, a chieftain of the APC, and Ladoja of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had formed a coalition to lead the ADC in the state.
“The union of the two notable politicians with some others reminded us of a submission by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo can never be a good friend to any progressive,” it said.
The APC said it was watching the direction of the alliance, adding that it was clear that it would head for the rocks.
But in a swift reaction by a group loyal to the coalition, it described the APC statement as ‘living in a fools paradise ‘daydreaming and hoodwinking in the dark, saying the coalition has come to stay so as to uproot all forms of autocracy, executive arrogance and impunity.’
The secretary of the group, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun through a release in Ibadan at the weekend said the coalition will be beacon of hope to-restore true democratic virtues in the state so as to propel good governance which people of Oyo State are yearning for.
‘The trio had contributed one way or the other to their paymaster, governor Ajimobi’s success history either to become the senator or the governor. While Koleoso , Adebisi and Lam Adesina were instrumental to his actualizing his dreams in 2003 and 2011
“Ladoja’s efforts in Ajimobi’s self acclaimed victory in 2007 is still fresh in the discerning minds of people in the state and beyond. If the coalition did not fail in 2007 when Ajimobi left Action Congress because he couldn’t pick gubernatorial ticket of the party for the unknown All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP with the support of Chief Adewolu Ladoja, then why crying wolf when they are being chased by their shadows. The day of reckoning is drawing nearer with 2019 elections”
