Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi on Thursday, made the list of the committee to audit the country’s Ecological fund.
The audit committee was part of the outcome of the NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, presided over by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Governors of Nigeria’s 36 states during the meeting formed a committee to audit the country’s Ecological Fund.
Speaking on the reasons behind the development, the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, said the governors decided to audit the fund because states have not collected any money since the beginning of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the balance appeared to be diminishing.
“No state has collected money from the ecological funds in the last one or two years and we notice that the balance is going down. Somebody must be touching it,” he said.
The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, told ournalists at the end of the meeting that members of the committee include governors of Oyo, Borno, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Anambra as well as the Ministers of Finance and Environment.
He also noted that the balance in the Ecological Fund currently stands at 33.6 billion Naira.
