A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Chief Adegoke Oyetunji, has told the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, “to bury the thought of making in-road into any part of the state especially Oyo North Senatorial district in the build up to the 2019 general election in view of its bad record of governance”.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan yesterday, Oyetunji who is the Oyo North Senatorial Chairman of the APC described as “an unrealistic wishful thinking” the optimism expressed by a PDP Senatorial aspirant (names withheld) who said, in an interview published by the Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, that his party would dislodge the governing APC come 2019.
According to Oyetunji; “Oyo North Senatorial district which comprises of the entire Oke-Ogun and most parts of Ogbomosho zones was the worst hit in the hands of the PDP especially between 2003 and 2007 when former governor Rashidi Ladoja ruled the state. It was a period of the locusts as the people of the zone were completely marginalized in the scheme of things.
“This explains why the Ladoja administration failed to execute any meaningful projects in the zone that one can point at as today. Most of those who occupied elective positions at that time were products of flawed elections and they could not deliver anything reasonable with stolen mandates while the few appointed were no where to be found by their people.
“However, the story changed immediately the ACN/APC came on board in 2011 as the district began to enjoy good governance and better patronage by the administration of Sen. Abiola Ajimobi. The issue of marginalization of the zone was immediately addressed as qualified persons were appointed to man various organs and establishments of the governance. This was in addition to the emergence of Chief Moses Adeyemo as the deputy governor.
“The general election of 2015 which largely reflected the wishes and aspirations of the people was a watershed as it ushered in the likes of Dr. AbdulFatai Buhari as the Senator representing Oyo North and three out of the four members of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Abuja. These federal lawmakers have made clear difference unlike what was obtained between 2003 and 2011.
“In view of this, we found the outburst of the PDP aspirant very reckless and devoid of any iota of truth but the usual political propaganda aimed at misleading the public. Therefore, the promoters of the PDP in the state should channel their energy and resources on how to secure the forgiveness of the masses as a result of the misdeeds of the past and not on fruitless campaign to reclaim power in 2019.” Oyetunji said.
