Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, former First Lady of Oyo State, has officially denied the authenticity of a viral video circulating on social media, which allegedly shows her making remarks about the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
The video, according to her office, is a fraudulent deepfake created using artificial intelligence, and the statements attributed to her were never made.
In a statement released on Saturday, Dr. Ajimobi’s spokesperson revealed that a digital forensic review confirmed the video is synthetic, with AI technology used to manipulate her voice and lip movements.
“ This video is not only false but deliberately created to mislead the public and generate political tension ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement said.
The office warned that the video is a prime example of AI being weaponized in politics, a phenomenon experts have cautioned could increasingly influence upcoming elections.
It noted that according to analysts, the use of AI-generated content to impersonate public figures threatens the integrity of democratic processes and can be used to distort public opinion, incite unrest, or damage reputations.
Dr. Ajimobi’s team called on the public, media houses, and security agencies to exercise caution when encountering such content.
“In this era of digital manipulation, it is vital to verify the source and authenticity of videos and reports before sharing. We urge everyone to treat this video as a malicious hoax and avoid spreading misinformation,” the statement added.
The former First Lady, who recently assumed a diplomatic role as a Nigerian ambassador, emphasized her commitment to truth, transparency, and democratic principles. Her office further noted that they reserve all legal rights to pursue action against the creators and distributors of the fraudulent video.
