As part of efforts to enhance food security and support women in agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered women farmers in Oyo State through the Women Agricultural Support Programme.
The programme, designed to equip women farmers with essential training, agricultural resources, and financial support, was attended by key government officials, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
Representing the First Lady , Oyo State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, who was also represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi. described the initiative as a clear demonstration of Senator Tinubu’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture and strengthening national food security.
Hon. Adebisi emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s drive for agricultural development and economic diversification.
“Human beings cannot survive without empowerment, and agriculture remains a key driver of our economy,” he stated.
As part of the initiative, beneficiaries received agricultural materials, including sprayers and cash prizes, to enhance their productivity. They were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained to improve their farming practices.
The highlight of the event was the training sessions, which focused on modern and climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance productivity and sustainability in farming.
Mrs. Ilori delivered a lecture on climate-smart maize and cassava production, emphasizing the impact of climate change on farming. She also discussed seed treatment, fertilizer application, and farm management, urging farmers to leverage climate information and advisory services to improve their yields.
Mrs. Agbaje Abimbola from the Ministry of Agriculture focused on post-harvest preservation techniques, providing strategies to minimize losses and maintain produce quality.
One of the beneficiaries, Rofiat Bakare, expressed gratitude for the initiative, assuring that the training would be put to good use rather than the materials being sold.
