The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency in Oyo State says that repair work has commenced on some of the federal roads in the state, with a promise to complete the work before the rainy season in April.
The Punch quoted the agency’s engineer in charge of the state, Francis Ishabiyi, who disclosed this in Awe during an inspection of road work, as saying that the project would also cover part of the old Oyo-Ogbomoso road and the Oyo-Awe road, which connects Oyo and Osun states.
He noted that repair work would soon commence on the bad spots on Ibadan-Oyo road in the second phase of the project.
Ishabiyi said, “The Oyo-Awe road is an interstate road that connects Oyo and Osun states. We have a bridge that has totally collapsed and cut the road into two. We have been able to put in place a box culvert to replace the old twin-pipe culvert that collapsed. We have also completed the retaining wall.
“The problem we had was caused by heavy rain causing huge erosion. We have put back the bridge and the road to connect the two states. The road is also important because it leads to an agrarian community where large amount of food and cash crops are produced. They have been cut off from the consumers for some time. The work started two weeks ago and in the next one week, we should be completing the surfacing.”
