The chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State chapter, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde (Fele), has debunked the claim by a suspected kidnapper, Sola Ogundele, who is currently in the custody of the state police command that he is a member of NURTW in the state.
Ogundele, who was accused of being a member of a kidnap gang, was paraded by the Oyo State police command.
According to Alhaji Oyerinde, the kidnap suspect lied that he was a member of the state chapter of NURTW, saying Ogundele was not known to any member of the union in the state.
Oyerinde, in an interview with Nigerian Tribune in his office, said he was so sad about the report lamenting that Ogundele’s claim as a way to evade justice.
According to Oyerinde,”That boy named Sola Ogundele is not our member and, as a matter of fact, the boy did not belong to any garage or branch of the union in the state which would have made it easier to identify him because I have put calls to all state branches of the union but nobody could identify him.
“Since I assumed office, any sort of hooligalism, thuggery and any social vices have been stopped because our members are now law-abiding citizen.
“I just want to urge gentlemen of press to always verify their reports, though I understand the boy claimed to be member of the union, the union should have been contacted and the story verified before going to press to save us from any embarrassment,” Oyerinde said.
