Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Hon Segun Odebunmi has called for urgent concerted efforts on the part of Federal and Oyo State governments to prevent the spread of COVID 19 from Ejigbo (being an epic center of the Disease) in Osun state to neighbouring communities specifically to Surulere and Ogo Oluwa Local Governments in Oyo State, which share boundary with Ejigbo.
Hon Odebunmi who is representing Surulere /Ogo Oluwa federal constituency also called on Oyo and Federal government task force team on Coronavirus to deploy more medical personnel to the boundary communities to prevent further spread and importation of the virus into the state at large.
“The state task force team lead by professor Alonge should as a matter of urgency swing into action by putting in place necessary facilities and strategy to prevent the spread of the virus from Osun to Oyo through Ejigbo and its environs.
“Over twenty communities in Surulere and Ogo Oluwa local government areas in Oyo state have boundary with Ejigbo which is being used to quarantine returnees from Abidjan by Osun state government, and 14 index cases have been recorded.
“The government should declare total lockdown of the area if not the entire Oyo state where the case is on the increase.” he said.
While commending the Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde and his Osun state counterpart for their efforts in combating the dreaded virus, Odebunmi called on stakeholders to support the government efforts by sensitising and giving out to the needy at this point
“At my level as a Federal Lawmaker, I have embarked on continuous sensitisation and distribution of hand sanitiser and other palliatives to my constituents.” He concluded.
