A chieftain and leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Oorelope local government area, Alhaji Yusuf Sharafadeen Alani has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Agencies and other relevant bodies to ensure there is free, fair and credible election in the local government area.
Alwajud as being fondly called made this call on Tuesday in a chat with journalists in Igboho, in Oorelope local government area of Oyo state.
He added that what happened during the 2019 general elections where some chieftains and members of political parties were harassed and detained by thugs working for a candidate must not happen on Saturday.
While recalling the incident, the Businessman cum politician said a particular candidate of a political party mobilized thugs, hoodlums, criminals from Ilorin, the Kwara state capital to Igboho to cause chaos.
He said that the thugs were after his life and some other chieftains adding that they gained entry to the polling units and collation centre harassing and terrorizing people with different weapons.
He also said that credible information available to him has it that this candidate has also concluded plans to mobilize thugs to Igboho again to carry out the same assignment they did in 2019.
He urged the security agencies to be vigilant and take all measures to ensure there is no influx of thugs, hoodlums, criminals into the town as they go to poll on Saturday.
His words: “I want to use this golden opportunity to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Agencies and other relevant bodies in the conduct of general elections to ensure that there’s rancor-free, free, fair and credible election in Igboho, Oorelope local government area of Oyo state.
“What happened during the 2019 general elections must not repeat Itself in Oorelope local government. A candidate mobilized thugs, hoodlums, criminals who aren’t sons, daughters and residents of Igboho into the town to cause mayhem.
“These thugs were harassing, pursuing and threatening chieftains and members of other political parties. They caused unrest in the whole town during this period. Infact, I was advised to go into hidden because they were after my life. I don’t know what they want to achieve with this.
“This candidate and one Retired soldier were harassing, pursing voters and moving around across each polling units and wards to intimidate the voters. I want to urge the security agencies on this matter to take the necessary step.
“Credible and reliable information at my table shows that this candidate has once again concluded plans to mobilize these people into Igboho again to cause chaos and scare people away from voting. Security Agencies should buckle up and be on the alert. They must not allow the influx of these people into our town.”
