The Igboho City Hall in Owode was abuzz with excitement as Engr. Abass Oladimeji Yakubu launched his foundation, aimed at promoting educational excellence and empowering future leaders.
The event, attended by distinguished guests, educators, students, and community leaders, celebrated academic achievements and honored outstanding educators.
In his keynote address, Engr. Yakubu expressed his joy at fulfilling a lifelong dream to inspire and empower the next generation. He emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “Education is the greatest tool for transforming lives and communities. By investing in education, we are not just empowering individuals; we are building a stronger, more prosperous nation.”
As part of the event, Engr. Yakubu presented cash awards to his former primary and secondary school teachers, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and contributions to nurturing and shaping his life and career. He also awarded scholarships to outstanding students, including Muftau Gbadegesin, a master’s student at the University of Ibadan, who received a cash award of ₦100,000 to support his academic pursuits.
Furthermore, Engr. Yakubu provided financial support of ₦100,000 to the Federation of Igboho Students Union National Headquarters and presented a Wi-Fi modem for 32 users to the Principal of Ifelodun Grammar School, Igboho. He announced plans to collaborate with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to establish a School Knowledge Centre (SKC) with full internet facilities and computers.
The event also featured a mathematics competition, which drew widespread participation from schools across Igboho. Winners of the competition were celebrated with cash awards, certificates, and school bags, while all participants were recognized for their efforts and enthusiasm.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Alhaji Asimi Adewuni, a veteran mathematics teacher, commended Engr. Yakubu for his visionary and exemplary leadership in honoring his teachers. “I am proud of Engr. Abass for honoring his teachers both late and alive. He was my student at the Irepo Grammar School and was one of the brightest and most brilliant students.”
The ceremony featured cultural performances, goodwill messages from community leaders, and testimonies from beneficiaries. The atmosphere was one of hope and inspiration as attendees lauded the philanthropic efforts of Engr. Yakubu and his dedication to societal development.
