The three trade unions of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the institution have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to approve and announce substantive principal officers for the polytechnic.
In a letter jointly signed by the union leaders and made available to Inside Oyo on Tuesday, the workers commended Governor Makinde for his efforts in repositioning the institution but urged him to take the final step by ending the seven-year era of acting management that has hampered stability and growth within the school.
The unions are the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU)
The statement, signed by Comrades Engr. Taiwo B. Adeboje, Engr. Joseph O. Titiloye, Titus Jayeola, Engr. Olayanju, Olusola A. Ojenike, and Tunde Lala, described the governor’s intervention in the affairs of the polytechnic as timely and transformative.
They lauded the Governor’s appointment of Professor Adebiyi Adekunle Kazeem as Chairman of the Governing Council and praised the Council’s performance in restoring order and professionalism to the institution’s administration.
According to the unions, the Governing Council, under Professor Kazeem’s leadership, had duly advertised the positions of principal officers, conducted interviews, and completed the appointment process, submitting its recommendations to the state government on July 27, 2025.
While appreciating the governor’s continuous support, including the recent release of additional subventions to ease salary augmentation and improve staff welfare, the unions expressed frustration over the prolonged use of acting officers to manage the polytechnic. They said the arrangement contradicts the provisions of the Polytechnic Act and has undermined the institution’s administrative efficiency and morale.
“Sir, resources had been used repeatedly to prosecute this exercise on two different occasions but to no avail. This is the third time that the same resource would be used, and the Governing Council has done the needful and recommended the prospective qualified candidates,” the unions stated.
They emphasized that the latest appointment process was transparent, credible, and in full compliance with due process. The unions, therefore, urged Governor Makinde to promptly announce the recommended substantive officers to consolidate the progress already achieved under his administration.
The unions further commended the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Elder Hon. Segun Olayiwola, for his commitment to the audit and revitalization exercise that has strengthened the workforce and improved accountability in the institution.
While also reaffirming their loyalty and readiness to maintain industrial harmony, the unions described the governor’s leadership as a model of purposeful governance and appealed to him to complete the reform process by addressing the leadership vacuum once and for all.
“We count on His Excellency not to further delay the announcement. As stakeholders, we are committed to ensuring continued peace and progress in the institution,” the statement read.
