As Muslims across the country celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitri, Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP, founder and spiritual head of Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide Wajajaye, Ibadan, has urged the government to address the pressing challenges facing the nation.
In a Sallah message titled “Address and Arrest Our Deadly Period,” Professor Olagoke congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of this year’s Ramadan fast. He also urged the leadership to respond to the economic crisis, incessant kidnapping, and ritual killings with resolve and empathy, guided by principles of justice, equity, and service to the people.
Professor Olagoke emphasized the need to promote values through effective policy formulation and execution to eradicate evil cultures such as ritual killing, drug pushing, kleptocracy, poverty, corruption, and trafficking.
“It is unfortunate that people don’t talk about values again; they think, preach, and talk of wealth acquisition in the absence of work,” he said. “The environment of Nigeria today is fraught with Mahatma Gandhi’s prediction on the Seven Sins of the evening times.”
He charged leaders to reaffirm their commitment to the welfare of all citizens, especially the vulnerable and marginalized. “Let us remember the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who emphasized caring for one another and working towards the common good.”
Professor Olagoke wished Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
