A meeting of chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to produce a consensus candidate to represent Egbeda/ Ona Ara federal constituency ahead of 2027 elections ended inconclusively.
Our correspondent gathered that the meeting was held on Monday in Ibadan, the state capital.
It was attended by about 16 leaders of the party from the two local government areas; Egbeda and Ona Ara and was presided over by a former Minister of Special Duties and a former Chairman of Egbeda local government area, Elder Wole Oyelese
Five aspirants on the platform of the party among whom are four aspirants from Ona Ara local government area and one aspirant from Egbeda local government area attended the meeting.
The meeting which was aimed to produce a consensus candidate for the federal constituency, ended inconclusively on Monday because both the leaders and aspirants could not agree on a particular candidate.
Our correspondent gathered that the meeting was sequel to the directive of the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde who directed the leaders and aspirants to meet and agree on a candidate to fill for the election.
It was learnt that Makinde warned that if they could not agree, they should bring the matter to him where the issue will be discussed on 15th April this year.
A source at the meeting told our correspondent on Tuesday that the meeting ended inconclusively because the leaders and the aspirants were unable to agree on who to pick.
The source noted it was as a result of this stalemate that made the former Minister to adjourn the meeting indefinitely.
“The meeting we had yesterday with the aspirants for Egbeda/ Ona-Ara federal constituency ended in a stalemate yesterday because we could not agree.
“Five aspirants came. Four from Ona Ara local government area while one person came from Egbeda local government area. It was going smoothly but when it was clear that we could not agree, the Chairman who happened to be a former Minister adjourned the meeting indefinitely”.
Another source at the meeting added that the leaders have agreed to take the matter to the governor as he has directed that they should bring it to him of they failed to agree on a particular candidate.
“The Chairman said that the situation should not continue like that, he has agreed that the matter be taken to the Governor. The governor had directed that we should meet, and if we could not agree, he said that we should bring it to him where the issue will be resolved on 15th April. As I said, it ended inconclusively. As I speaks, we are yet to pick anyone as the candidate of PDP in Egbeda/ Ona Ara federal constituency ahead of 2027”.
