A 34-year old dismissed soldier, Isiaka Abubakar and an accomplice, Saheed Akangbe, 24, were yesterday paraded by the Oyo State Police Command on Thursday for snatching a Toyota Camry with number plate, KJA 89 ER, at gunpoint.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, said Abubakar was dismissed from 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, adding that three cut-to-size guns were recovered from the suspects.
Odude said the robbery was coordinated by an inmate of the Ibara Prison in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Ismaila Adeosun, adding that Akangbe was an ex-convict released from prison in April this year.
Odude said, “The two suspects belonged to a robbery gang which specialised in snatching cars in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and neighbouring states. The robbery operations were always coordinated by Adeosun, who is serving in the Ibara Prison in Abeokuta.
“Further investigation led to the recovery of another stolen Toyota Camry with number plate, AGL 45 CW. They will be charged to court soon.”
Abubakar said he spent eight years in the army, adding that he was dismissed as a lance corporal.
He said, “My major task is to escort snatched vehicles with my uniform. I did not take part in any robbery.
