Despite revelations of grievances of some party members, Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ruled out the existence of crisis in the party.
According to the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Akeem Olatunji said the grievances enumerated in the report were expectations of members who had been in opposition for about eight years and wanted some relief.
Noting that PDP members should be glad that the party was back in power, he urged party men and women to lower their expectations, remain patient and positive that the party goodies will still get to them.
Speaking with newsmen at party office, Ibadan, on Thursday, Olatunji said the Dr Saka Balogun report contained suggestions for the progress of the party and did not point to division in the Oyo PDP.
He, however, noted it was the exclusive preserve of Governor Seyi Makinde on how he intended to act on the recommendations of the Saka Balogun reconciliation committee report.
Olatunji said the Oyo PDP remained one and was glad that the Governor Seyi Makinde administration was delivering good governance to residents of the state.
Olatunji said: “The committee submitted their report to the governor and as the leader of the party, he’s studying the report and very soon, he’ll communicate his decision.
“Basically, it is all about suggestions on the way forward and the governor is ready to act appropriately.
“As far as we are concerned in Oyo State, we don’t have crisis in the PDP because the party in Oyo state is one. “It is solidly behind the governor and the government is not also having a problem because the leadership of the House of Assembly, under Rt. Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin is solidly with the governor.
“When you have a government in place, there will be a lot of expectations. Some people will have high expectations. All we know is that we all have to lower our expectations and wait for our time because it is not possible for him to do everything at once. And I believe that within the next couple of months, everybody will smile but it is turn by turn.
“We stayed about 8years as opposition so some people believe that what they have lost for eight years, they should be able to recoup it in one and a half years. Mind your, this governor and our party will not support corruption and that is why the governor has set up an anti-corruption body to try offenders. We are happy with the governor, government and believe that with time, everybody will be taken care of. They should exercise patience. It is better to be in power than out of power and we are using that power to benefit the good people of Oyo State.
“As far we are concerned, the leadership of the party under the Chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, is happy with the governor. For those who are having one complaint or the other, you can’t have a perfect system. It’s not perfect anywhere.
“You just have to manage whatever crisis, grievances may arise and to God be the glory, we are far ahead compared to any other state in Nigeria, as far as harmony is concerned in the party.
“The various developmental projects embarked upon by the governor interests us a lot. We believe it is only through this atmosphere that people can get things done.”
