A 45-year old trader, Mrs. Adeogun Olufunmilayo, was on Tuesday arraigned at the Ibadan Magistrates Court sitting in Iyaganku for allegedly pouring detergent into her neighbour’s food.
The accused was arraigned on a one court charge of causing breach of peace.
She pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out to her in court.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Temitope Daudu, told the court that the accused had on March 7 at Boluwaji Area of Ibadan “did conduct herself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by pouring detergent and water into the beans and shoes of one Mrs. Aminat Popoola.”
According to Daudu, the offence was contrary to Section 249 of the criminal code Cap38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000 and punishable under same.
In her statement to the police, the accused said the complainant was always fomenting trouble and denied pouring detergent into her beans.
“I don’t know anything about the detergent that she mentioned although when I got to the police station this morning I saw substance inside the beans she brought to the station,” the woman said.
Magistrate A. A Adebisi granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till April 24.
