A deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, during the Easter, put smiles on the faces of 430 widows.
The gesture is an initiative of his Non-governmental organisation – Bayo Adelabu Foundation.
At the event which took place at the corporate headquarters of the foundation at Jericho area of Ibadan, the state capital, each of the widows, who were drawn from the 33 local government areas of the state, went home with 15, 000 naira zero interest loan, to boost their trade. It was done in collaboration with SeedVest Micro Finance Bank Limited.
The 47-year-old, who is one of the grandsons of late populist politician -Alhaji Adegoke Adelabu, is rumoured to be eyeing the governorship seat of Oyo State in 2019.
Speaking on why he decided to assist the widows, Adelabu, who is the Agbaakin Parakoyi of Ibadanland, explained that there can be no better time to assist the needy than now. According to the financial expert, he knew what he went through when his mother became a widow at a tender age. “I am a son of a widow. It is the grace of God that has taken me this far. Your own children can be greater than me. The gesture may be small but I want you all to make good useof it,” he advised.
