The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has issued a statement rejecting and condemning a call by a faceless group for the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji, to “step aside”.
In the statement signed by Comrade Olufemi Lawson, National Secretary of CD, the group described the call as “baseless, malicious and politically-sponsored”, saying it was orchestrated by economic saboteurs opposed to the ongoing reforms championed by FIRS under Dr. Adedeji’s leadership.
The group stated that Dr. Adedeji’s reforms at FIRS have been professional, disciplined, innovative, and globally respected, and have led to the modernization of Nigeria’s tax system, improved revenue integrity, and enhanced public confidence.
CD urged Nigerians to ignore the “reckless campaign of calumny” and stand with Dr. Adedeji, saying his contributions are critical to Nigeria’s economic transformation and financial stability.
The group also warned that those who profit from corruption and systemic decay are behind the attacks on Dr. Adedeji and FIRS, and vowed to continue to expose and challenge such attacks on positive reforms.
CD reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, and pledged to monitor the activities of public office holders, including Dr. Adedeji, to ensure that Nigerians benefit from government policies and national resources.
