A bridge linking Eruwa to Lanlate in Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo state has collapsed due to heavy rainfall, on Tuesday.
The bridge, residents told insidoyo.com, has been given signs of possible collapse before collapsing.
One of the residents, Mr Adejumo Ogundele, who spoke with this newspaper in a telephone conversation confirmed the collapse of the bridge.
He said with the collapse, journey of few minutes will change to long journey and waste of time and limited resources.
He urged the state government to as a matter of urgency fix the bridge.
“Yeah, it’s true. We met the bridge collapsed this morning due to heavy rainfall. The bridge has been in bad condition since. We hope the state government will fix it as soon as possible, because journey of few minutes will now be long distance with the usage of adjoining roads.”
Another resident, Mr Mayowa Adegoke accused the Seyi Makinde-led government of neglect of the zone.
He added that the Ibarapa zone is far behind other zones in terms of developmental projects in the state.
He called on Governor Seyi Makinde to return in good folds the love the people of the zone have for him.
