The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial district, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu and Senator Soji Akanbi, representing Oyo South Senatorial District have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Sunmonu and Soji joined 13 other Senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) today to defect.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki made the announcement on Tuesday during plenary.
Other Senators include Barnabas Gemade(Benue), Shaaba Lafiaji(Kwara), Rafiu Ibrahim(Kwara), Abdulazeez Nyako(Adamawa), Monsurat Sunmonu(Oyo) and Usman Nafada(Gombe).
Also, Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi, Ibrahim Danbaba, Ubale Shittu, Isah Misau, Suleiman Nazif, Soji Akanbi.
After the announcement by the Senate President, some Senators started chanting “PDP”, in the chamber.
The Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, however, appealed to the defecting Senators not to defect.
He noted that the ruling party APC has its own internal disagreement but “this does not translate to factionalization, therefore, they (Senators) have no reason to defect”.
Also, the Nigerian senate has announced it will embark on their eight weeks-long recess. The legislative arm adjourned plenary to Tuesday 25, 2018.
Senate President Bukola Saraki announced the recess at the plenary.
The adjournment is part of the prayers of a motion on the siege on Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
However, Senators Monsurat Sunmonu(Oyo) and Abdul-Aziz Nyako(Adamawa) have also defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
