Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has directed employment of 5,000 persons across all government agencies in order to put an end to youthful idleness.
The governor stated this on Monday while hosting security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders to a meeting in a bid to cart a new course for the post #EndSARS agitation in the state.
He explained that the agitation by the youths was legitimate and his administration will make a deliberate and concerted efforts geared towards productively engaging the youths to bring an end to youthful unemployment in the state.
“We have been talking to Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, OYOWMA, before now.“We have been talking to AMOTEKUN. We have to, immediately, wrap some of those recruitment up and put these people off the street. The criteria for employment and the dates for assessment will be announced by the agency authorities.”“Going forward, starting from 2021, there will be provisions made for the Direct Labour Agency in the budget. This will ensure more employment opportunities for residents who have requisite skills when projects are awarded.”
Last week, youths took over some major roads in Oyo state and nationwide calling for an end to police brutality and the notorious unit – Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The protest was later hijacked by hoodlums leading to vandalisation and looting of stores and warehouses across the country.
