Governor Seyi Makinde has dissolved the board of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, (OYSIEC) with a promise to offset their salaries till end of tenure.
In a letter, signed by the State’s Head of Service, Alhaja Amidat Ololade Agboola on Thursday, seen by InsideOyo.com, the governor asked the board to hand over all government properties in their possession to the Director of administration at the commission.
The Makinde-led government said it will offset the salaries and allowances of the affected board till expiration of their tenure.
The letter reads, “I wish to refer to the above subject and inform you that His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde has approved the dissolution of the board of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission with effect from 1st July, 2019.
“While noting the fact that your tenure has not expired, the State government is ready to offset all salaries and allowances payable to you till the end of your tenure.
“His Excellency wishes you the best in your future endeavours. Kindly hand over the property of the State in your care to the most senior Director in your commission.”
InsideOyo.com reports that former Governor Abiola Ajimobi inaugurated members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) in July 2016.
The eight-man OYSIEC committee were Mr John Ajeigbe as Chairman, Mr Sunday Aborisade, Mr Adedeji Raimi, Mr David Adeagbo, Mrs Omolola Odekunbi, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Akuru, Mr Lateef Bello and Mr Rasheed Olajire.
The board and the management of OYSIEC conducted the 2018 local government election which the new government led by Seyi Makinde described as illegal. They case is pending in a law court.
