Borussia Dortmund forward, Karim Adeyemi, on the third day of his visit to Nigeria, deepened his commitment to community development by commissioning three boreholes in Ibadan.
The projects, executed under the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, were unveiled at Ojuolape Mosque in Oje Market, Gbenku Community in Ibadan Northeast Ward 6, and Temidire Community in Oje.
Speaking on the project, Barrister Olamide Idowu, Director of Strategic Planning for the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, described the boreholes as part of the foundation’s broader empowerment program.
He noted that the foundation has been actively supporting students through scholarships and assured the public that more impactful initiatives would be rolled out next year.
During the commissioning ceremony, Chief Soliu Ayinde, the Babaloja of Oje, praised Karim Adeyemi for remembering his roots and making a tangible difference in his hometown.
“We are proud of Karim Adeyemi for his thoughtfulness in addressing one of our key needs. The boreholes will bring relief to the community, and we pray for the continued success of the Karim Adeyemi Foundation,” he said.
He also called on other footballers abroad to emulate Adeyemi’s example by giving back to their communities.
Alhaja Oluwakemi Akala, the Iyaloja of Oje Market and Ibadan North, expressed her gratitude for the initiative, noting its significance to traders and residents.
“This is a wonderful development for our market. The boreholes will be immensely useful to everyone fetching water here. It is a remarkable achievement during my tenure,” she remarked.
Community members from Temidire also shared their excitement about the new development.
Kalifa Abulfatai Olalekan, a member of the community, emphasized the importance of access to clean water and thanked the Karim Adeyemi Foundation for bringing relief to their area.
“Water is life, and this initiative has come at the right time. It is a welcome development for our community,” he said.
Karim Adeyemi’s entourage included his parents, members of the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, and team members from Germany.
The event was also attended by key community and market leaders.
