The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Oyo State branch, Dr. Bolaji Olaomo, has pledged to lead a reform-driven and transparent administration that will prioritise the welfare of members and the advancement of veterinary practice across the state.
Dr. Olaomo made the pledge on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during the Swearing-In and Handing-Over Ceremony of the new executive council held at the State Veterinary Hospital Complex, Mokola, Ibadan.
In his inaugural address, the chairman expressed deep gratitude to members for their trust and support during the October 21, 2025, election, assuring them that his administration would uphold accountability and inclusiveness.
“We thank the Almighty God who has given us the privilege of witnessing this day marking the official transition from one executive tenure of our great association to the other,” he said.
“As we promised during the electioneering campaigns, we will not let you down. We have started, and we will continue to do things that will bring lasting benefits to our members and to the veterinary profession in Oyo State.”
Dr. Olaomo announced the launch of a digital membership database using Google Forms to capture the data of veterinarians across the state. The database, he said, would help the association identify where members reside and practise, improving communication and welfare initiatives.
“You are very important to us,” he added.
“We want to know where every member is, so we can plan and protect our own effectively. If you have not filled the form, please do so today.”
He added that to promote efficiency and better coordination, the Oyo NVMA has been divided into zones, each with a zonal representative. The zones and their representatives are Dr. Olubukola Adelakun (Ibarapa), Dr. Fiyin Awotunde (Oyo/Iseyin), Dr. Kehinde Akanbi (Ogbomosho), Dr. Nafiu Oparinde (Saki), Dr. Dayo Oyelowo (Ibadan), and Dr. Olaomo himself for Kajola/Iwajowa.
He also announced the appointment of Dr. Phyllis Taiwo-Ezewele as the Internal Auditor for the tenure to ensure financial transparency and regular accountability between the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary.
“We have seen the need for the office of an Internal Auditor so that both the Treasurer and Financial Secretary will always be on the same page in their financial reporting,” he explained.
“Transparency will be our watchword.”
On improving identification and professionalism, the chairman disclosed plans to produce Smart Identity Cards for all members, featuring a barcode that links directly to each veterinarian’s profile on the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) portal.
“We want every member to be properly identified as professionals. Your ID will speak for you anywhere you go,” he said.
Dr. Olaomo further revealed that the association was ready to commence construction on its Secretariat Building after a review meeting with the Board of Advisers and the Building Committee. He assured that visible progress would begin within three months.
The chairman also announced a Day Retreat scheduled for Saturday, November 29, 2025, themed “Down the Memory Lane.” The retreat will bring together past chairmen and general secretaries to share experiences and chart new paths for the association’s growth.
“We want to bring back all the past achievements that need continuity and get ideas from our elders on how to move the association forward,” he said. “I bet you, the association will not remain the same after this retreat.”
Dr. Olaomo reaffirmed NVMA Oyo’s support for the Committee on the Review and Implementation of Veterinary Laws in the state, led by former chairman Dr. Musibau Adekunle Ibrahim, adding that full implementation of existing laws was crucial to protecting practitioners’ interests.
He concluded by urging members to remain active and united:
“We will need your support to succeed even more than we needed it to win. We need your presence at meetings, your commitment when called upon, and your financial support through prompt payment of dues,” he said.
“Together, we will build a stronger NVMA.”
Other executive members sworn in include Dr. Alarape Selim (Vice Chairman), Dr. Suraj Olurinde (General Secretary), Dr. Ogunleye Adepeju (Assistant General Secretary), Dr. Dideolu Osunkoya (Treasurer), Dr. Azeez Ibrahim (Financial Secretary), Dr. Ola Olawale (Editor-in-Chief), Dr. Olofintuyi Opeyemi (PRO), and Dr. Tola Ajani (Welfare Officer).
