The Oyo State’s Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan has described the passage of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi as a great loss not only to Oyo and Yorubaland, but to Nigeria.
Engr Olaniyan recalled that in the long reign of the Alaafin, Oyo witnessed a lot of development which placed the town in a vantage position to be reckoned with in the comity of developed towns in Nigeria.
According to him, “we all loved Baba. He’s always there for all of us whenever we have reasons to consult him on both personal and official issues”, adding that baba never shied away from saying the truth always irrespective of whose ox is gored.
The deputy governor, while praying for the repose of the soul of the Alaafin, said that Oba Adeyemi brought more respect and dignity to the Oyo throne through his comportment, character and dignified ways of personal and official life.
While commiserating with the royal family and all sons and daughters of Oyo, Engr Olaniyan enjoined everyone to use the demise of the Alaafin as an opportunity to foster greater unity, love and peace in the land.
