The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has said that Alhaji Yunus Akintunde brought many developmental projects to the ancient when he was commissioner.
Akintunde was removed as commissioner for works and transport between 2011 and 2013.
Making a remark at an event organised to mark his 79th birthday, the monarch revealed how he queried Governor Abiola Ajimobi when the former commissioner was removed.
He explained that “when Yunus was dropped as commissioner, I met the Governor and attacked him. I queried what he did wrong. I said we needed to know what he did. And the Governor was surprised I could come down to Ibadan on Yunus and since then, he multiplied the honour and respect he has for me. Many did not know I had no hand in his removal because Governor appointed my daughter as his replacement.”
He added that “some people used the opportunity to create a wedge between me and Yunus but he was very wise. I never quarrelled with him and I dare say Yunus is very clean and upright. He used his position to bring developments to Oyo and I am proud of him.”
Speaking earlier, Akintunde had extolled the virtues of the monarch, saying that his reign has brought many good things to the town.
