A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan North East 1, Honourable Olamide Akinajo has distanced himself from the planned impeachment of the deputy Governor.
It was gathered that Akinajo had earlier protested the inclusion of his name on the list to the House leadership.
Sources said the leadership of the Assembly also recognized and regretted listing his name as one of those who signed the impeachment notice.
It was gathered that in line with resolve reached during Wednesday plenary, the Assembly had yesterday notified Olaniyan of impeachment move against him.
An updated letter, it was also gathered was resent to the deputy Governor to notify him of the error.
In a letter dated 16th of June, 2022 written by the clerk of the house, Yetunde Awe, and addressed to Olaniyan, the house said that “the error in the earlier letter referenced in paragraph 1 is regretted.”
With the development, the number of those who signed the allegations against Olaniyan has been reduced to 23.
Akinajo represents one of the two constituencies in Governor Seyi Makinde’s Ibadan North East local government.
Recall that the lawmakers had levelled five allegations against the deputy Governor in a petition sent to the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
The allegations include: gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and official duty and insubordination and other offences.
The development is coming following the defection of the deputy Governor from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
