The flag bearer of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Oyo state and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, has asked workers to be careful in making their decision in the forthcoming elections so that they will not inflict more suffering on workers in the state who he said are already traumatised.
Alao-Akala made the call at the Council Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress at American Quarters, Agodi in Ibadan where he met with a joint congress of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The ADP candidate urged the workers to take a bold decision to stop the suffering of workers and not be bought over by money that will consequently put workers in the next level of suffering.
The ADP candidate urged the workers to take a bold decision to stop the suffering of workers and not be bought over by money that will consequently put workers in the next level of suffering.
“Don’t put mediocre who only know boardroom politics in office because of money; they don’t have the interest of workers at heart. It takes a man with experience to tackle the issue of Oyo state and I am the only one who has the experience to handle the economy of Oyo state key now.
“Experience is acquired, it is not written in any textbook. I am flaunting my political credentials, let any candidate that has such also flaunt it. You have been unable to fight for your rights and this is wrong; your strikes have no weight again because they don’t care. We won’t do that because we know that the Holy Scripture orders that labourers should not be made to suffer for their wage,” he stated.
Alao-Akala, however, promised that workers will no longer suffer if he is voted into office. “You won’t have a reason to embark on strike under my watch because you will be happy. I can’t take you for granted because, without workers, governance will fail without workers; they are the tools needed to develop the state.
“I will pay the 30,000 minimum wage and I will pay as at when due, it is not a favour but your right. I am committed to the welfare of workers and anyone will tell you I am not known for making fake promises or going back on my word. The ball is in your court to decide the kind of governance you want from now,” Alao-Akala stated.
