The immediate past Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu has described the move to unite the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State by the Deputy National Chairman South of the Party and former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi as one that cannot produce the desired result.
Speaking on a popular political programme – BOTTOM LINE on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan, Shittu alleged that Ajimobi loves to play God at all times adding that in as much as he imposed himself on the members of the party as their leader, APC may remain a serial loser in any election conducted in the State.
He cited the composition of the Reconciliation Committee with former Governor Alao Akala as Chairman as one of the reasons why the Committee may not succeed.
He said “Imagine that Akala was single handedly picked by Ajimobi to head a Committee that will appeal to the aggrieved members of the party. Even Akala himself is aggrieved because it was same Ajimobi that drove him out of the the APC in the first place. Has he been reconciled with the party?.
“You can imagine that one man sat down all alone to pick those that will unite our party. I can tell you for free that only two people in that Committee are independent minded. How can justice be done in such a case?”.
Shittu also faulted the composition of a reconciliation committee in Oyo State stressing that such committee with similar mandate has been key constituted which has Chief Bisi Akande as the Chairman.
According to him, “does it mean Ajimobi knows more than the national leadership of the APC?”
When asked what he has against Ajimobi, he made reference to an audio earlier played by the Presenter wherein Ajimobi said he (Shittu) does not have what it takes to be a Governor and that he prefers people with style. The former Minister said he does not have anything personal against the former Governor but that Ajimobi has expressed his mind severally on his hatred for his person.
Describing himself as one of the most decorated and highly experienced politicians in Oyo APC, he recalled how he became a member of the old Oyo Assembly at age 26 and how he has risen over time to become a Minister.
He said ” Ajimobi had wanted to become a Minister but was denied. That was after I had served as a Minister anyway.”
When he was reminded of the fact that Ajimobi is today one of the power brokers in APC at the national level and that it important for anyone who wants to achieve at any level in APC to curry his favour.
He retorted that there is nothing to celebrate yet in Ajimobi’s appointment as the Deputy National Chairman South as it was an illegal arrangement between Tinubu and Oshiomhole.
On his future ambition, he said he is not nursing anything for now but that anything can happen before 2023.
