At last, Governor Abiola Ajimobi has appointed caretaker chairmen for all the local government, LG and local council development areas, LCDAs in Oyo State.
Insideoyo.com gathered that they will steer their various council areas in acting capacity for four months.
The people of AFIJIO, Atiba, Soro, Oyo East, Oyo South East, Oyo West, Oyo South West, Orire, Irepo, Asabari, Lagelu West and others LG and LCDA who have been without caretaker chairmen for close to 7 months are now happy.
Since April, 2017, the councils have been without caretaker chairmen unlike other LGAs.
Insideoyo.com recall that members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, had rejected nominees for Irepo LG and Asabari LCDA after they were found ‘unappointable.
Council areas in Oyo town and Orire are without caretaker chairmen owing to the court case instituted by some traditional chiefs against the government.
They were angry that some of their villages were ceded to another council areas in the creation of local council development areas, LCDAs, without any referendum. The court later halted the planned preparation for council election.
Instead of obeying court orders in all the LCDAs, Governor Abiola Ajimobi appointed caretaker chairmen for all council areas, excluding Oyo town and other contentious areas.
Only recently, the court ordered conduct of election in the 33 existing local government areas of the state, adjourning other issues till this month.
Looking for ways to settle amicably, Ajimobi invited major stakeholders from the town to sort things out. At the meeting which lasted 40 minutes were the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbola, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi among others.
Though details of the meeting is still sketchy as at the time of filing this report, Ajimobi will present names of caretaker chairmen for the affected council areas together with others this week.
Tenure of caretaker chairmen ended yesterday, after four months in the saddle.
Ajimobi is expected to appoint new men or extend tenure of caretaker chairmen pending the release of election timetable.
