A gubernatorial aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election in Oyo state, Senator Ayoade Adeseun has confirmed dumping the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Adeseun who contested the PDP ticket against Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed this in a telephone conversation on a Radio programme tagged Political Circuit on Fresh FM Ibadan monitored by insideoyo.com on Saturday.
While speaking, the former Oyo Central Senatorial District Senator said he was the one that brought Governor Seyi Makinde and many others back to PDP. He added that Makinde is a beneficiary of the rots in the party.
He said “Well, it’s absolutely true because it’s most unfortunate that the PDP has basically become an everything goes party, at the National level in particular. And when you have a National leadership that’s not forward looking, corrupt, that takes people for granted. It’s only fair that one looks for alternative platform to achieve one’s objective. I basically led those who rebuild PDP after the 2015 imbroglio but it’s time to move on, this is my decision and I’m moving on to the APC which I see as a more veritable platform for achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
“The party structure in Oyo state was basically what I led people to build. We went through the wards, went through local governments up till the state level. Prior to that, the party was in shambles but we were able to build up. I brought Seyi Makinde back to PDP. The likes of Venerable Governor Ladoja came back to the PDP because of the efforts we built to woo people back to the party. And we were confident that if there were to be free and fair primary, we will prevail. The national changed the delegates list, we were the one who did the list, we knew who they were but they didn’t release it until the day of the primary. And when they came, all our delegates we brought to the stadium couldn’t find their names on the list which means they deliberately engineered the list. And that’s the game the leadership played. With the way I looked at it, I actually don’t think Governor Makinde is responsible for this. He just happened to be a beneficiary the rots at the National level of PDP”
Insideoyo.com recalls that Adeseun challenged Makinde’s victory as the flagberarer of the PDP at the High, Appeal and Supreme Courts which he lost.
